John V. Irion’s Autobiography

2007 Update

I am now in my 10th year teaching and coaching at Queensbury HS. I run the Adapted Physical Education program and am also the head football coach. I also assist the track team working with the throwers. I also am Nationally Certified as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist and assist the district in that area.

My wife is in her 10th year teaching Elementary Ed. at Glens Falls Schools. (makes for an interesting situation during games against them) My daughters have been growing up despite our efforts but are doing very well. Hannah is in her senior year at Bucknell University and is doing her student teaching in Elementary Ed with a double major in Spanish. Holly is in her sophomore year at St. Lawrence University. She is a Psychology major. She also is throwing for the track team there as well. Hope is a sophomore at Queensbury HS. She is also a track athlete and has interests in art, music and teacher aspirations as well.

On a sad note for us, my father died last easter. A few years ago the Elementary school library was dedicated to him. That was a very meaningful thing for him and I was glad he was able to be there for it.

1997 Version

I went to Utah State University to study animal science. I played football
and track. Lettered in Football. Had a minor in Physical Education and found
that I preferred that field. Transferred to SUNY @ Cortland and got my degree
in PE with a concentration in coaching. I also participated in football and
track. I got a job as a permanent sub in the Hancock Schools while my wife (by
then) Patty had an elementary ed job. I then took a job at Central Square
Schools(20 minutes north of Syracuse, NY) and Patty got one a year later. I
coached football and track first as an assistant and presently am the Head coach
(9 as head track coach, 6 as head football) During these last 15 years here,
we have had three girls. Hannah is now 12, Holly is almost 10 and Hope is 5.
My parents still live in the Queensbury area and my father retired as the
Superintendent almost 2 years ago.
